Move over Courtney Love and Biff Naked because there’s a new rock and roll diva in town and her name is CJ Sleez. Think Courtney Love, Traci Lords, and Janis Joplin, but with the fire Guns N' Roses and the charisma of Iggy Pop.
Emerging from the desolate and seedy city streets of Hamilton, Ontario, CJ SLEEZ is an infamous and outrageous young blonde with a raw, fiery and unapologetic approach to music. Exuberant eroticism combined with a shameless dedication to power chords, CJ Sleez brings sleezy rock'n'roll to a new level of decadence. This trash vixen, clad in tight leather, high heels and covered in tattoos attacks the stage with stunning defiance.
While “living by example” and “kicking out the jams” are mere catch phrases for most rock wannabees, CJ SLEEZ literally lives an breathes rock ‘n’ roll 24-7. With the release of Back from the Brink (Spinerazor Records), CJ SLEEZ has documented her live fast lifestyle into one explosive new six song EP.
“There is no faking it for this group, and if you’re not full blast, you’re half assed.I've always felt the need to document my life. It's difficult to explain, but I think that recording music and posing for photographs, also in a strange way, stem from the same desire.
Recorded by Jordon Zadorozny, (Blinker the Star, Courtney Love, Sam Roberts) and Rob Sanzo (Danko Jones, Sum 41, Sylvain Sylvain, Treble Charger, etc), Back from the Brink callously brings to mind the brilliance of early New York Dolls, combined with the sheer legendary riffage of AC/DC.
While Back From the Brink will undoubtedly rupture stereo speakers, CJ assures that her live performances are where the real explosives are. “I like the unpredictability, the high energy, the emotional release, and the instant gratification of my live show,” she says. “It's important for me to know that I am connecting with the crowd, and making an impact, no matter how brief. Playing live is literally what I live for.”
The backbone of CJ SLEEZ consists of guitar god STACY STRAY (Robin Black), red hot ROBBY RISK on bass, and solid yet dead sexy CHRIS NOVA on drums. Together they form the ultimate rock band, and guarantee that no one will leave a CJ SLEEZ show untouched by the spectacle.
The band has a wide range of influences including Guns N' Roses, The New York Dolls, KISS, Motorhead, The Sex Pistols, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Hole, and L7. They admire any band that's willing to push the limits of mainstream trends and move people emotionally through their music. In their short existence, they have released the full length CD Rock Action, the “Rock and Rail” Spanish import 12” picture disc, appeared on the Toronto compilation “Terrors of the Town”(W/Sinisters, Vapids, Cheerleader), and the DVD “Gutter Dolls”.
Since her inception CJ has seized the spotlight across the globe. With critical acclaim from the likes of Exclaim!, NOW and Playboy, CJ Sleez has appeared in hundreds of magazines from Canada all the way to Portugal. This past spring her over the top sexuality caught the attention of none other than rock legends The Rolling Stones, who hand picked CJ to star in the video for "Streets of Love", currently airing on video networks across the globe.
Although rock n' roll has always been CJ’s main obsession, she has a wide range of interests: drawing (mainly old-school tattoo art), sewing her own my own stage clothes, reading, and writing. Recently, CJ completed an autobiography documenting her decade of decadence in a tell-all book, CJ Sleez: Poor Little Bitch Girl: Unapologetic Memoirs from the Queen of Raunchy Rock 'n' Roll. Published by Manor House Publishing, the book is an inside look at the woman behind the music, her life, loves, lust and battles with addiction. Sleez doesn’t pull any punches, and fans will revel in her rock and roll debauchery and applaud for more at the end.
“My life is so crazy I don’t need to make things up, so it may seem truth is stranger than fiction,” laughs Sleez on some of the more ‘colourful’ tales documented in book form.
With an explosive new EP, tell-all book and countless live performances looming in the near future, CJ is already well on her way to becoming rock ‘n’ roll’s new diva.
